Ocular Intelligence for Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO

LONDON – 28th November 2018 – UK innovation agency, Tiger Heart, collaborated with The Centre for Entrepreneurs (CFE), the UK’s leading entrepreneurship think tank to create a remarkable Ocular Intelligence visualisation which was shown at the CFE’s inaugural annual lecture.

Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO and Executive Chairman, was invited to make the case for why science and technology, and in particular, artificial intelligence, holds the promise to help build a world of greater freedom, fairness and opportunity for people across backgrounds and communities. The event shone a spotlight on the far-reaching impact of entrepreneurship, taking the debate beyond personal journey stories and narrow debates normally heard at business conferences. Schmidt addressed entrepreneurs, senior politicians, investors and business leaders to share his thoughts on the challenges and opportunities that society will face with artificial intelligence, and why it is a critical factor facing current and future entrepreneurs. As a worldwide organisation focusing on entrepreneurs the CFE lecture attracted a wide range of industries from the arts, technology, finance, media, pharmaceuticals, education and many more. To understand how data can help businesses apply artificial intelligence in this new era of humanity, the CFE and Tiger Heart decided to use data based on the event’s attendees and industries represented, to convey a visual way of reinforcing the need for individuals and industries to collaborate and invest in the challenges facing humanity.

Sanj Surati, Founder of Tiger Heart and Kevin Francis, CEO The Little Wild Ones developed an arresting Ocular Intelligence visualisation to show how people, industries and countries overlap. The visual highlighted how the connecting circles and strands of industry bisect and diverge with the smaller circles of the countries. The Ocular Intelligence aimed to ‘beautify’ data and present a simple way of discovering which industries are in the room, where they are based, what trends can be deduced and provoke debate around the need to collaborate more. Schmidt believes AI holds the promise to help build a world of greater freedom, but this progress isn’t inevitable. In fact, it may not happen at all without partnerships and collaboration that cross disciplines and boundaries.

Sanj Surati of Tiger Heart said “We wanted to create an artistic visual representation that connected with the audience in the room and which would highlight what industries are interested in Schmidt’s view. The visualisation is intended to inspire those in the room to think about who is actually invested in the challenges of humanity and where these people come from.”

Kevin Francis of The Little Wild Ones added “It was a great project to work on and an interesting challenge to visualise the data creatively over such a long period of time.”
