Big (amounts of) Sunshine in the Big Smoke

Has Summer finally arrived? We at Tiger Heart HQ think so!

Today we were lucky enough to venture outside and basque in the sunshine as we ventured to Skyscraper central, A.K.A. Canary Wharf, for a meeting with the CEO of Digital Jam. Digital Jam works in the digital space and focuses on innovation, specifically across the entertainment industries, technology and start up sectors.

The CEO, Tanya Laird, was kind enough to impart some wisdom and share her experiences working in the tech space. Tanya not only has a wealth of experience working in the digital sphere, which was highly interesting to learn about, but also from meeting her briefly I can already tell you she is one of the strongest, fearless individuals that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I felt like Tanya embodies what Tiger Heart is all about, driving exciting and impressive discussions about emerging technology. The discussion linked into what I’ve learnt throughout my time with the Tiger Heart team, which sadly is going to come to an end next week.  One of the main things I’ve learnt, aside from developing my skillset to have compassion for others, understanding their needs and how Tiger Heart can help them, is how much the tech space is emerging. With how much technology is emerging, I believe that it will well and truly start to dictate our lives for us (Black Mirror, anyone?).

After our meeting and completing another working day, Sanj and I made our way to the ‘Hot Startups in Retail Analytics’ event at the Summit, Golden Square in central London. The event, organised by Tech London Advocates (TLA) Retail Tech, hoped to demonstrate how retailers are using analytic tools to aid decisions such as categorising merchandise and marketing.

The evening showed three different presentations, from BrandTotal, Summit and EDGE and then followed with a panel discussion, answering questions from the audience. Although the event was interesting, highlighting how analytic technology has developed and enables businesses to capture data, one of the main things that stood out was the lack of diversity that was presented. This was shown as the event failed to not only use women, but also individuals from different backgrounds or countries. I wonder when and if the tech industry will to start evolve to represent everyone. Let’s hope soon!
