The Oscar Wilde Temple

Today Tiger Heart wandered from our roots at Somerset House to Studio Voltaire to see the ‘Oscar Wilde Temple‘. This supported the charity The Albert Kennedy Trust, who support LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. The space was completely transformed to represent and celebrate gay liberation. It’s important for Tiger Heart to not only continuously be inspired by artistic spaces for our work, but also to understand and appreciate such significant figures. For us, it was enlightening to be surrounded by the story about a man who faced so much provocation in response to his artistic intelligence.

The artists who curated the idea for this mesmerising space, McDermott & McGough, faced similar difficulties in the 20th century. Living in poverty and identifying themselves as “time-travelling” Victorians, they stripped their life completely of modern day advances, removing the electricity from their house and living by candlelight.

The idea of the space took twenty years to develop, and also acted as a safe space for all individuals with any background or belief to have their wedding or naming ceremony in for their child, for example.

It was an honour being in the presence of such amazing stories about several incredible men who paved the way for other artists.
