A Morning at Crisis Skylight

A Morning at Crisis Skylight

Today the Tiger Heart team spent an uplifting morning at Crisis Skylight, Shoreditch. We are currently working on a Virtual Reality project which will allow some of the Crisis members express their narratives of their experience being homeless.

Sanj and I first went to the Crisis Café which is based next door to the Skylight building and I discovered that the majority of the team were at some point or still are experiencing homelessness. This was the first thing I learnt about Crisis so this easily formed my first impression of the charity to be that this is an incredible, special place.

This thought continued to flourish throughout the day. Hearing the Crisis Alumni express their feelings about their situations reminded me that I should never take my life for granted. These accounts must have taken so much strength to talk about, bringing up what seemed like very painful memories. We’re so grateful that these members not only took their time to come in and discuss their lives, but also their willingness to share their stories. We believe these stories may give an insight into what it might be like to be homeless and also the hope that they have now after finding Crisis.

One of the alumni described Crisis as a place which represents “how good humanity good be“. I was completely blown away by how much Crisis has to offer; three floors of services and support. Rooms filled with art, theatre and martial arts programmes, others filled with individuals who’s mission is to help those who are struggling with their mental health, find a job and feel happier within themselves.

This morning was inspiring, humbling and empowering. We feel so privileged to be working with such an amazing charity who support and fight such an worthy cause.
